City to honor Parks Project

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – A Thursday ceremony will recognize members of the Commerce Parks Project, who were instrumental in raising funds to bring new play equipment to City Park.

The organization raised approximately $32,000, which was used as part of a $150,000 matching grant awarded to the City. The remainder of the match came from city funds and in-kind services.

Funds were also used to provide horse shoe pits, a botanical garden, new grills and picnic tables. Parks Project organizer Jeanie Putman, along with the names of others who helped with the improvements, will be engraved in new fencing at City Park.

Thursday's ceremony begins place at 5:30 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be provided.

The Park has also undergone improvements by way of a new restroom through city funds and new pavilion, which was paid for by insurance dollars after a 2009 storm destroyed the previous structure.
