Paris – The City Council Monday tabled an agenda item asking for Carruth's resignation.
Instead, council members unanimously approved an item allowing the city attorney to engage outside council to negotiate with Carruth and his attorney to his possible removal from the position.
The city also tabled an item that would have named an interim city manager. It was unclear when the item will again be addressed.
Carruth is the sixth city manager to hold the position since 2004.
Two weeks ago, council voted 4-3 to begin the process to remove him from office, citing a failure to comply with contractual obligations, deficient performance and failure to comply with established policies and procedures.
