City seeing boom in restaurants

NPR
More food-chain restaurants are planning to open in Greenville.

The City of Greenville is in the middle of a restaurant boom, with three new eateries in the planning stages and a new version of an existing fast food place coming soon.

City of Greenville Public Relations Liaison Autumn Barton said Thursday that the city is expected to be home to a new Burger King, a new McDonald’s and a Golden Chick, along with the previously announced Cotton Patch Cafe.

The plans for a new McDonald’s is perhaps the most interesting news. Barton said that the new version of McDonald’s is being proposed for the land right next to the existing restaurant at 4705 Moulton Street, which remain open while the new McDonald’s is being built.

“Then they are going to mow down the old one,” Barton explained. McDonald’s burger competition will be located in front of the city’s largest retailer.

“Burger King is going to be built in the Walmart parking lot,” she said. “Those two are on the horizon.”

A sign for the Golden Chick restaurant was recently installed on the westbound Interstate 30 service road next to the Collin Street Bakery, while crews from the Cotton Patch Cafe cleared land and performed geotechnical test drilling in December to design the foundation for the restaurant as part of the Kari Beth Shopping Center.

Barton said building permits have not yet been issued for any of the proposed restaurants.

“All of them are kind of in the engineering phase still,” Barton said.
