Representatives for the City of Greenville and the owner of a local car wash are set to meet next week, to see if a settlement can be worked out concerning claims of excessive noise coming from the facility.
City Attorney Daniel Ray said he and a subcommittee of the Greenville City Council intend to meet with the property owner and his attorney Tuesday afternoon, prior to the start of the council’s regular session.
Last week, the council instructed Ray to file an injunction against the business, which had angered the residents of an adjacent neighborhood. The injunction has not been filed although the owner of the business, in turn, reportedly had planned to file legal action against the city concerning the issue.
“We’re going to try and reach an amicable conclusion, so that the noise is no longer a concern and without getting into any more court battles,” Ray said.
Ray said the council’s neighborhood development committee — which includes Sandra Linson Bell, Renee Francey and Sandra Del Bosqe-Hobdy — will be representing the city during the meeting.
Several people approached the council, complaining they have lived with the noise ever since the car wash opened about a year ago.
Ray said he had spoken with the owner of the car wash on multiple occasions, adding hundreds of complaints are received by the city about the noise every day, as the car wash and the blowers which are the problem operate from 5 a.m. until 10 p.m. daily.
