Collin County Turns to Stylists to Combat Domestic Violence

Collin County is taking an unusual approach to combating domestic violence -- through hair stylists.

The Cut It Out Initiative is Collin County’s way of helping identify the signs of domestic violence by training hair stylists to spot those signs.

Charlise Hill-Larson, a  communications specialist for the Texas Muslim Women’s Foundation told the Plano Star Courierthat hair stylists often have deep conversations with their clients.

"Hair stylists are really able to hear and see things that maybe other people -- even friends -- don’t see or hear," she said.

An official kick-off for the initiative is set for Oct. 2.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
