Commerce to begin using electronic emergency notification

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – The Commerce Police Department has instituted a new program allowing instant electronic emergency notification to residents. The emergency notification system called ScanUSA allows police to send alerts to computers, cell phones, PDA's, pagers and fax machines.

Commerce is in the process of training around 21 people to be able to enter alerts into the internet-based program. Residents can sign up to receive notification at www.scanusa.com. The program is free, and residents can begin signing up now. Commerce Police expect to have the whole process up and running within the next two weeks.
