Commerce – Our coverage of next month's municipal elections for Commerce Mayor and Council Seats 2 and 4 continues with Place 4 candidate Dr. Bill Taylor. Taylor is a native of Dallas, who moved to Commerce last May. He operates his own chiropractic service in Paris, and is Co-Owner of the Drunken Mule Saloon in Commerce.

Taylor says the city needs to focus more on areas that require immediate attention, like the streets. He feels less money could have been spent on a new City Hall and Fire/Police Department recently completed. Taylor opposes a $3 million bond toward street improvements, also to appear on the May 10 ballot, because he feels it wont address enough of the improvements that need made. Taylor says that like with any business, there comes a time when you have to trim fat, and look at necessities and start cutting back in some areas. That doesn't mean cutting services, but being more efficient with your money.

Taylor, along with Mayor and Place 2 candidates Tim Johnson and Chris Ellason, if elected would like to implement what they call a citizen's hotline. The program would be done by fax, where residents can express their opinion for or against any issue. Taylor says this is a chance to bring government back to the people. According to Taylor, Johnson, Ellason and himself are all running as a team, and says that's how they'd like to be elected.

You can hear from all candidates for Commerce Mayor and City Council Seats 2 and 4 as KETR co-hosts a candidate's forum Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Early voting for the May 10 municipal elections continues today through Tuesday, May 6 at Commerce City Hall.
