Commerce candidate withdraws application

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – Four candidates now remain for the Commerce City Council, after one candidate withdraws his application just days after the filing deadline.

Deryke Gorman, owner of the Spot Brewery in Downtown Commerce, removed his name from the ballot Thursday. According to City Secretary Marty Cunningham, Gorman did not cite a reason for doing so. Gorman had filed for the Place 3 position just three days earlier, on the final day of eligibility.

That brings the races for Place 1 and Place 3 down to two people apiece.

For Place 1 Tommy Hall will oppose incumbent Tony Henry in the May 9 election, while incumbent Richard Hill and David Hitt are each vying for Place 3.

Write-in candidates have until Monday to seek a spot on the ballot. Early voting is scheduled between April 27 and May 5.
