Commerce City Council to pass tax rate and budget tonight

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – The Commerce City Council is scheduled for a special meeting tonight to pass the new tax rate and budget for the city. The tax rate is set to go up 6-cents per $100 valuation. The tax hike is primarily to be used to repay debts on the bonds issued for the New City Hall and Fire and Police Complex. Preliminary construction work on the new city facilities has already begun. The project has a 9 month construction timeline and both buildings are expected to be finished in June of next year.

The meeting is set for 5pm this evening in the Commerce Parks and Recreation Office at 1907 Park Street.
