Commerce City employee shot and killed

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – Commerce Code Enforcement Officer Michael Pee Wee Walker was shot and killed around 10:30 this morning while on routine assignment for the city. Police have not released the name of the suspect.

Witnesses at the scene said a man in his 20's came out of his home brandishing a fire arm at Walker and opened fire. Walker attempted to flee, but was struck in the back and fell. The suspect then shot him several more times. Police say emergency crews were called to the scene and were able to apprehend the suspect. Walker was taken to Presbyterian of Commerce where he later died.

City Hall closed down after reports of the shooting came in. Commerce Police are expecting the arrival of Texas Rangers to assist in the investigation.
