Commerce to conduct sewer system tests

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – Beginning Wednesday, the City of Commerce will be conducting a smoke test of its sanitary sewer system and is asking residents to be on the lookout.

While the smoke is not harmful, if it appears in your house there could be a problem with the drain system of your home. These problems may allow harmful sewer gases to enter your home.

Hydrogen sulfide gas smells like rotten eggs and is poisonous. Methane gas may be odorless, but it can be highly explosive.

If you get smoke in your home, simply open windows or doors to allow the smoke to leave your residence.
