Commerce Council opposes sewage dump

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – The Commerce City Council passed a resolution to overturn a decision that will allow a sewage dump near Lone Oak. All the governmental entities in Hunt County have been asked to consider such a motion. The proposed dump has caused much controversy and has been officially protested by the Hunt County Commissioner's Court. Last month, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality approved the application for the dump. The council said one issue the TCEQ did not consider was impact on property values not only in the area of the dump, but in the entire county.

About 50 area residents have also hired an attorney to help fight the proposed sewage dump.

In other council action, the Commerce City Council reviewed and re-adopted the city's curfew, and named Bernie Chamblis as Employee of the Quarter.
