– An ordinance authorizing a late hour's permit was unanimously denied by the Commerce City Council Tuesday. However some Texas A&M University-Commerce students were present to speak in favor of the issue, along with The Drunken Mule Saloon's Dr. Taylor. Commerce Police Chief Kerry Crews spoke against the measure, citing concerns over an increase in drunk driving. Also siding with Chief Crews were retired Regional Captain for the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Agency David Alexander, one Commerce businessman and a Commerce mother whose son was killed by a drunk driver.

If passed, the measure would have extended the length of alcoholic beverage sales from Midnight - 2 a.m., while alcohol consumption would have been extended until 2:15 a.m.
