Commerce Elementary Principal to retire

Commerce – The Commerce School Board has accepted the resignation of Elementary School Principal Bobbie Thurman, effective Dec. 18.

Thurman has served as principal for 16 years, starting out as an assistant principal at CES three years earlier.

A longtime resident of Commerce, Thurman graduated from CHS in 1965 and from East Texas State University in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education, English, and Special Education. She began her teaching career in Sulphur Springs in 1968.

Secondary Curriculum Facilitator Jeanne Lay will serve as interim principal.
