Commerce enacts more watering restrictions

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – The Commerce City Council voted to amend Stage Two of drought contingency plans in regular session Tuesday to include stricter water restrictions within the city. No outdoor watering at all will be allowed Monday through Friday with hose-end sprinklers or automatic irrigation systems.

Residents will be able to water on weekends during certain hours, depending on their address. On Saturdays, even numbered houses may water between the hours of 8pm Saturday and 10am Sunday morning. Odd numbered homes may water on Sundays starting at 8pm to 10am Monday morning.

The restrictions take effect immediately.

Commerce draws most of its water from Lake Tawakoni, which is nine feet below normal levels. If drought conditions continue, the city may soon enact Stage Three of drought contingency plans, which restricts the use of water even further.
