Commerce Idol

By Bill Oliver

Commerce, TX – "Commerce Idol", sponsored by the Commerce Rotary Club, brought out elementary students, adults, and those in-between. They sang and danced for cash prizes, trophies, and the opportunity to perform at two more events.

Proceeds from ticket sales and program advertising allowed the Rotary Club to find two scholarships for graduates to be at Commerce High School. The following first and second place winners were invited to perform at next month's Cowhill Chili and BBQ cookoff and September's Bois D'Arc Bash:

3rd-5th Grade: 1st place was a tap dance from Tabatha Wooten and 2nd place was a piano solo from Elizabeth Ashley.

6th-8th Grade: 1st place was the band "Fakie", members are Paige Watson, Chas McBroom, and Reed McBroom; and 2nd place was the tap dance trio of Shelbi Davis, Jalyn Holt, and Morgan Morrison.

9th-12th grade: Two vocal soloists shared first place, Dani Roberts and Brin Beaver.

18 and up: 1st place was vocalist Ryan Beaver and 2nd place was vocalist Trey Dotson.
