Commerce ISD to address possible job cuts

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – The Commerce ISD will contemplate a reduction in its workforce during a regular meeting of the Board of Trustees Thursday night.

Officials will first meet in a closed-door executive session on the matter, and then later discuss possibly implementing the reduction in open session. The Board is scheduled to determine action on a financial emergency and/or program change requiring a reduction in force.

Earlier this month, Superintendent Blake Cooper stated the district was looking to cut between seven and 15 percent from the next fiscal year's budget. He stressed they would look at all areas to possibly cut from, but do so in a way that doesn't affect the education of the students.

Thursday's meeting begins at 7 p.m. from the CISD Board Room, 3315 Washington St.
