Le'Mone Ards, girls basketball coach at Commerce High School, has died, according to a statement from the school district.

The following statement was issued on the Commerce ISD Facebook page this morning.

"Last night, we lost an important member of our Commerce ISD family. Le’Mone Ards, our girl’s varsity basketball coach, passed away last night in Dallas. All Commerce ISD counselors are onsite to help students and staff through this difficult time. All of tonight’s games have been canceled and will be rescheduled. As we receive more details regarding memorial services, we will post on the Commerce ISD website and Facebook page. Our hearts and prayers go out to the Ards’ family."

Ards complained of chest pains to a 911 operator, according to Commerce ISD superintendent Blake Cooper. Emergency medical personnel were dispatched to her home, Cooper said. It remains unclear whether Ards was alive when emergency staff arrived.

More information will be provided as it become available.
