Commerce ISD to hold Special Meeting concerning Superintendent

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – A Special Meeting has been called for Monday by the Commerce School Board to address issues concerning the District's Superintendent.

Earlier this week, board members placed Mike Roberts on paid administrative leave. Reasoning for the decision was unspecified.

In turn, A.C. Williams Elementary School Principal Julia Robinson has been appointed to act as chief administrator in Robert's absence.

The agenda for Monday's session includes a closed door executive session, during which the Board intends to discuss the consideration of an investigation into Superintendent Robert's performance of duties, conduct and employment contract with the district. The Board is also scheduled to meet with the district's attorney to receive legal advice regarding the investigation.

Roberts was hired as superintendent in June 2007. He came to Commerce from Sinton ISD, a district of about 2,000 students near Corpus Christi. Monday's meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Commerce Middle School Library.
