Commerce ISD to name superintendent

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – The Commerce Independent School District Board of Trustees tonight intends to formerly name its next superintendent. Earlier this month, the Board voted unanimously to name Blake Cooper as its sole finalist.

Cooper has been assistant superintendent at Kaufman ISD since 2006. By law, the district must wait 21 days before formally naming Cooper as its next Superintendent.

Assisting the Board with the search was superintendent search firm Arrow Educational Services, whom the Board hired shortly after the resignation of Mike Roberts. For the past couple of months, the District has been under the direction of interim superintendent Larry Johnson.

The Board will also conduct a public hearing tonight, with regards to Senate Bill 218: To inform the community concerning the district's management of its financial resources. The 2008 School Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) is based upon the 2006-2007 school year.

Tonight's Board meeting begins at 7 p.m. at A.C. Williams Elementary School cafeteria, located at 3315 Washington Street in Commerce.
