Commerce man charged with posession of child porn

Commerce Police Department

A 31 year old Commerce resident faces charges of Possession or Promotion of Child Pornography.

About 3 weeks ago, the Commerce Criminal Investigations Division received information from the Hopkins County Sheriff's Office, about an individual in the City of Commerce downloading and distributing child pornography.  The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office has been working in conjunction with the ICAC (Internet crimes against children) Task Force and the Commerce Police Department on these types of cases.

On August 17th, 2014, the investigation came to a point where probable cause was established by the detectives and a search warrant was obtained. That search warrant was executed immediately on a residence in the 2300 block of Taylor Street. Following the execution of the warrant, the subject admitted to circulating images and videos he knew to be child pornography. The 31 year old Commerce Resident identified as Erion Eugene Shirley was immediately placed under arrest for possession of child pornography and was later transported to the Hunt County Jail.  Mr. Shirley remains in custody on a $40,000 bond for a Felony 3 charge of Possession or Promotion of Child Pornography.   This case is being reviewed by the District Attorney's office because there is a great chance that he will be facing additional charges.
