Commerce man not guilty

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – A Commerce man has been found not guilty of aggravated kidnapping and retaliation. James Matthew McGuckie was also cleared of a count of aggravated assault, but found guilty on a misdemeanor assault and ordered to pay a fine.

McGuckie was also found guilty on three drug charges and sentenced to 11 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice-Institutional Division and two years in state jail.

McGuckie was facing up to life in prison on the aggravated kidnapping charges, which stemmed from an incident in Commerce where he was alleged to have used a firearm to abduct and/or restrain his girlfriend's sister.
