Commerce man pleads not guilty to aggravated assault

By Kevin Jefferies/Brad Kellar

Commerce – A Commerce man has pleaded not guilty to aggravated assault and retaliation on a witness. 41 year old Conrrado Diaz Castillo remains in Hunt County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bond.

The charges stem from an incident last August in the 1600 block of Park Street in Commerce. Castillo and another man were said to have been drinking when the other man began to taunt Castillo. Castillo then hit the man with a hammer and sent him to the emergency room where he was treated for three wounds to the head.

Castillo is also alleged to have threatened one of the witnesses of the altercation to prevent them from talking to police.
