Commerce Middle School students safe in NYC after explosion

All of the traveling Commerce Middle School students are safe and accounted for after a building collapse and fire in East Harlem brought Manhattan  to high alert on Wednesday

These traveling seventh grade Tigers are wrapping up the last date of a five day field trip that stopped in Washington D.C. and New York City’s Manhattan Island.

Rebekah Jacobson, the CMS language arts teacher who is leading the students on the trip, confirmed to KETR that while they did notice a flurry of first responder activity this morning, and while they are able to see wisps of smoke over distant high-rises, their visit remains unaffected by the emergent situation and they expected to return to North Texas Wednesday evening as scheduled.
