Commerce PD look to nab New Year's Day shooter

Commerce – Commerce Police believe they are close to making an arrest in a New Year's day shooting in the City that injured two.

The incident occurred at just before 3 a.m. Thursday in the 2200 block of Live Oak, across from the Mafioso Club. Based on witness accounts, officials believe they're close to bringing in the lone subject responsible.

One of the victims, Cedric Lamone Lewis, 20, of Commerce, was found at Hunt Regional Healthcare hospital in Commerce, where he had been transported by private vehicle with a wound to his leg. Lewis was treated and released later that morning.

A second victim, Raymond Weatherall, 17, also of Commerce, was found with a gunshot wound to his side at the intersection of Culver and Bryant Streets. He was transported to Hunt Regional Healthcare hospital in Greenville where he underwent surgery and was listed in serious condition as of Friday morning.

According to Commerce Police Chief Kerry Crews, Weatherall, as of Wednesday remained in the hospital, but his condition had improved.

No word on why the shots were fired last week.
