Commerce Police make illegal dumping arrest

COMMERCE —  Two Commerce men were taken into custody when they were caught in the act of dumping illegal building materials in a field.

On Thursday, May 31, 2012 just before 10:30 am, Commerce Police Officers were contacted by City of Commerce Code Enforcement Officer Billy Relford.  Mr. Relford said that he was given an anonymous tip that someone was about to illegally dump some building materials.  Mr. Relford followed the men while contacting Commerce Police Officers to respond.  The men went to a field in the southwest corner of Pritchard Road and Knight Street where they began dumping out the materials onto the field.

Commerce Police Officers were able to catch the men in the act thanks to the quick tip and response.

21 year old Commerce resident John Charland and 20 year old Commerce resident Chasten Foxall were both arrested and have been charged with a Misdemeanor charge of Illegal Dumping of over 500 pounds but under 1000 pounds of material.  Both men are being held at the Hunt County Jail on a $3,500 bond.

The charges are expected to be upgraded to a State Jail Felony because of the weight and that it was for commercial purposes.

Illegal Dumping is a costly crime.  Not only because of the cost of the clean up and disposal but also because of the cost to the ecological environment.  As always, you may be able to remain anonymous when reporting this type or any other type of crimes.  You may do so by calling (903)886-1139.
