Commerce Police seize possible grenade

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – A reported disturbance Thursday in Commerce leads to the seizure of what is believed to be a grenade plus several firearms.

The incident occurred in the 800 block of Culver St. Officers made contact with a man in the parking lot who had been involved in the disturbance and were told there were guns in the apartment. Hostage negotiators would later be called to the scene to attempt to get the second man involved in to come out. A search of the residence would find what was initially thought to be a fake grenade, but because of markings and the way it was fashioned, officers seized it.

The grenade has been released to the Garland Police Department Bomb Squad to determine if it is a live grenade. The case remains under investigation.
