Commerce pub to close after seven months

According to a social media post by the local eatery, The Kilted Monkey is set to shutter permanently at the close of business this Saturday.

"To the Commerce Community," read the facebook post, "We regret to inform you that Saturday, April 27 will be our last day of business."

The owners of the cake-shop-turned-Irish-pub have carved quite a path in Commerce, with the original Izzy's Cakes located on Bonham Street downtown. In 2011, Subway built a new location, and the shop moved to the newly-vacated space in the shopping center on Culver Street.

The Izzarelli's hoped that the move would create more traffic to take advantage of the sandwiches and soups on the menu.

In the fall of 2012, after a summer of renovation, The Kilted Monkey concept was the result. A themed restaurant with 11 beers on tap, 30 or more via bottle, and a menu to include Shepherd's Pie, a Monte Christo sandwich, shrimp tacos, andouille mac and cheese, and even fresh boiled crawfish.

The Commerce Journal ran a feature story when the restaurant took its current form.

"We want to thank Commerce for supporting us through Izzy's and The Kilted Monkey for the past few years. We are grateful for all of the friendships we have made and hope that we will continue with these after this chapter closes."

A call to the restaurant ownership confirmed the authenticity of the post.
