Commerce school board <BR>approves standardized dress policy

By Bill Oliver

Commerce, TX –

By a 5-2 vote, Commerce school board members approved dress standards for students at the middle and high schools. Voting no were Debbie Aikin and Willie Blow.

The policy, added to the agenda of Monday night's monthly trustees meeting, is largely unchanged from what was turned down last month on a 3-3 vote. Medley Wilson, who voted no last month, voted yes when the topic returned Monday night.

6th through 12th graders will be allowed to wear any solid color polo, oxford, or turtleneck top and khaki, navy blue, or black pant, skirt, short, skort, capri pant, or jumper. Added to the list of clothing not allowed were cargo shorts and carpenter's shorts.

Through July 1st, parents can apply for clothing assistance by filling out an application at the middle or high school. The four-page policy will be mailed to parents of next year's 6th through 12th graders with their report cards.
