Commerce tax rate public hearing tonight

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – A public hearing to discuss the tax rate for the City of Commerce's budget this year is scheduled for tonight at 5pm at the Parks and Recreation Office in Commerce. The first public hearing on the tax rate was held during the first regular council meeting this month, but the second hearing failed to reach a quorum and was rescheduled for tonight. This year's tax rate for Commerce is set to rise by 6-cents. That hike is primarily for debt repayment related to the new city hall and fire and police facilities.

Commerce City Manager Bill Shipp said a special council meeting will be held next week to pass the tax rate and budget.

SHIPP: and then next Tuesday evening, we'll have a meeting at 5 o'clock, again at the Parks and Recreation office, and at that time we will adopt the budget and the tax rate.

Tonight's public hearing concerning the tax rate is set for 5pm at the Commerce Parks and Recreation office at 1907 Parks Street in Commerce.
