From Commerce to Tyler, McNevin announces new job

COMMERCE - Former Commerce Fire Chief Brian McNevin will become the director of operations with an Emergency Service District in Smith County.

It was not immediately clear where McNevin was headed followinglast month’s resignation. But he announced his new position via Facebook Thursday and says he will be moving to Tyler in August. The ESD is composed of 11 departments.

A native of Texarkana, Texas, McNevin had previously served in similar capacities in East Texas before a stint in Missouri and then as fire chief in Commerce the last four years.

"I serve an awesome God, he has a plan, and he is all over this. Best thing is that Donna will not have to work anymore," a post from McNevin read.

During his tenure, he was able to obtain numerous grants to aid both firefighters and citizens, including $732,000 to develop a program to increase volunteer firefighters and $10,000 toward educating residents on fire prevention, juvenile fire setter interventions and arson prevention.
