Commissioners approve Wolfe City alcohol ballot

Greenville – One of three petitions asking for an election item to consider alcohol sales is approved in Hunt County, leaving two separate entities waiting until next year.

Wolfe City residents in favor of the proposal are hoping to avenge a 2009 defeat of a similar ballot item. Commissioners on Monday approved the election item for November 8, which seeks the "legal sale of all alcoholic beverages for off-premise consumption only."

Hunt County Elections Administrator Mina Cook says the Wolfe City petition needed 89 valid signatures, with 91 received. However, petitions for the City of Lone Oak and Justice of the Peace Precinct 4 failed to receive enough valid signatures.

Cook says Lone Oak needed 39 signatures, which they had, but only 31 were valid. In Hunt County's JP Precinct 4, 1,615 signatures were needed, but only 1,535 were submitted.
