Commissioners to finalize county budget

By Scott Harvey

Greenville – Hunt County officials today are scheduled to consider keeping the current tax rate as is and significantly reducing spending as part of the new budget.

County Judge John Horn has proposed a tax rate of 50.75 cents per $100 valuation, less than the effective tax rate which would generate the same revenue as the current fiscal year. Under the plan, each county precinct's road and bridge fund is reduced by $100,000 and the Sheriff's Office budget was reduced by $250,000 to $3.37 million.

A public hearing is set prior to Tuesday morning's final vote, scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Auxiliary Court Room at 2700 Johnson Street in Greenville.
