Commissioners get grant, approve alcohol petition

By Scott Harvey

Greenville – Hunt County is the recipient of a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) grant to assist in the cleanup and enforcement of solid waste disposal.

Commissioners Monday morning approved an interlocal agreement with the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG), who will administer the TCEQ grant.

"100 percent grant funded for a new vehicle and specialized trailer to implement solid waste environmental enforcement in all parts of Hunt County," said Richard Hill, county emergency management coordinator.

Authorities will enforce illegal dumping of hazardous material. Based on need, Hunt County's grant application was ranked 17th out of 80, according to Hill.

Commissioners also Monday approved a petition by the Quinlan Citizens for Economic Progress regarding the sale of alcohol within city limits. The item will now go before voters in November. Last year, voters rejected a similar measure.
