Commissioners lift burn ban

By Scott Harvey

Hunt County – Hunt County Commissioners have officially lifted the county's ban on outdoor burning, after more than three months of being under such restrictions.

Commissioners had originally implemented the ban on Dec. 8, and even extended the ban earlier this month.

Hunt County Fire Marshal Richard Hill recommended commissioners lift the ban during its Monday meeting, citing that the recent wet weather, soil saturation and fuel conditions on the ground, that are now in much better conditions.

Residents in unincorporated portions of Hunt County now have permission to burn any unwanted trash or brush, but are still advised to use caution. City residents are always prohibited from such burning, however.

Hill says on windy days especially, residents are to be cautious if burning, and not to burn if wind speeds are too high.

Hill also wanted to make residents aware that the lifting of the ban does not limit a person's liability if you don't properly manage your burning.

More information on burning regulations in Texas is available through the Commission on Environmental Quality's website, http://www.tceq.state.tx.us/.
