Lamar County – Lamer County Commissioners may establish "protest zones" for expected July 21 demonstrations by both black and white activists.
Conflicting reports show there was going to be a national call for the African American cause but word from the U.S. Justice Department show that the Ku Klux Klan may come as well.
Judge Chuck Superville admits officials really don't know what's going to happen, but believe they should be prepared to balance U.S. Constitutional rights of free speech and peaceful assembly with safety for protestors, the public and personal and private property.
During a June 8 protest at the courthouse organized by a number of equal rights groups, fliers were distributed about the July 21 rally, and the groups met later that day at Leon Williams Park to make plans for a national rally.
Commissioners will discuss the item during today's meeting in the Lamar County Commissioners Courtroom.
