Commissioners sign off on county transportation plan

GREENVILLE - Tuesday’s vote on the Hunt County Transportation Plan culminated more than two years of work, according to W.D. Hilton Jr., co-chair of the Hunt Country Transportation Committee.

Hilton says the plan does more than just show where new streets and highways need to be built in the years ahead. Dr. Dan Jones, the other co-chair of the committee, stressed nothing is set in stone.

Since February of 2010 members of the committee have worked alongside officials with the North Central Texas Council of Governments to create the plan which covers more than 180 pages. It was designed not only to address thoroughfare needs but transportation as a whole during the next few decades.

One of the highlights of the plan is a proposal for an extension of FM 1570 in Greenville from Highway 66 to U.S. Highway 180.
