Como, Cumby to receive grants to improve water and sewer lines

By Kevin Jefferies

Como, Cumby – The cities of Cumby and Como have been recommended to receive grants totaling $500,000 to replace water and sewer lines. Each town will receive $250,000 in community development block grants administered by the Office of Rural and Community Affairs and made available through the Community Development Block Program of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Como will be replacing old asbestos-cement water lines, three fire hydrants, and 50 water connections. Cumby is planning to replace old clay sewer lines and brick manholes that allow runoff to enter the city's sewer system.

Mount Vernon and Clarksville have also received similar grants to improve water and sewer systems.
