Condition of near drowning victim improving

By Scott Harvey

Sulphur Springs – The condition of Caleb Ryan Smith is improving after he nearly drowned last week at the Sulphur Spring's City Pool.

City Manager Marc Maxwell says the six-year-old boy is doing better, but an exact medical condition was unknown.

Meanwhile, police have completed their investigation of the incident. No negligence is suspected.

Crews have drained the pool, repainted grates from silver to light blue, and have placed more lifeguards on duty. The city is also asking that when daycares are present at the facility - which was the case with Caleb - to have their staff actively monitor the waters. The pool is now reopened.

Caleb remains at Children's Medical Center in Dallas.
