Commerce – Construction has begun on an owner-occupied housing project in Commerce. The project identifies over 50% dilapidated housing and rebuilds the homes for free for the owners. This is the second time the City of Commerce has been approved for participation in the project. Ten homes were rebuilt about two years ago with five homes being targeted this time.
The city had bids come in under early projections for the project, which will also allow for providing certain extras with the construction, such as certain appliances for the home. Each of the five homes is in different stages of early construction, with the home along Sycamore Street nearly finished with the framework.
