Convicted killers in 1998 Greenville case to be executed

By Scott Harvey

Huntsville, TX – Execution dates are set for this week in the slaying of a North Carolina man, who was murdered in Greenville more than a decade ago.

Kevin Varga and Billy Galloway reportedly met in prison in South Dakota. Now, Varga is set for die Wednesday night, with Galloway scheduled for execution Thursday.

The two men, along with two other South Dakota women, were said to have left the state for Mexico in September 1998. Along the way, they robbed and fatally beat a man in Wichita, Kansas and then robbed and killed 37-year-old Army Officer David Logie after meeting him at a motel bar in Greenville.

The four fled in Logie's car and were arrested days later in San Antonio.

Varga and Galloway would become the first inmates convicted of capital murder from Hunt County to be put to death since John Michael Lamb in November 1999.

Hunt County has one more inmate currently on death row. Adam Kelly Ward was convicted in 2007 of capital murder involving the 2005 shooting death of Michael "Pee Wee" Walker. Ward does not currently have an execution date scheduled.
