Cooper Bulldogs football season begins

It has begun – football season. The Cooper Bulldog coaching staff welcomed just over 50 players on the perfect 70-degree, sunshine-filled morning.

The Cooper Bulldogs start the 2014 season in District 6-3A, Division II picked first over their competitors the Edgewood Bulldogs, Lone Oak Buffaloes, Alba-Golden Panthers, Paris Chisum Mustangs and Grand Saline Indians in the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine.

Following their 13-1 trip to the Quarterfinals, this year’s Bulldog squad has “potential” according to Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Ronnie Green despite graduating 14 seniors.

According to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, players to watch this season will be juniors: linebacker Colby Earley, who is a preseason Defensive Most Valuable Player, and defensive lineman Tristan Jones.

“It is a good start,” said Coach Ronnie Green. “We have some work to do, and we are just taking it day by day.”

The season will begin on Friday, Aug. 15 as Cooper hosts the Caddo Mills Foxes. Following the varsity and junior varsity scrimmages, Cooper will hold “Meet the Bulldogs” at Fred G. Wilkerson Field.
