Cooper HS seeks new principal

Cooper Review

During a regular meeting of the Cooper ISD Board of Trustees newly-elected members Thomas Darden, Blake Randle and Anita Moody were sworn in by former Delta County Judge Ted Carrington. Moody made the motion and with no objections the same officers will fulfill their duties. President Thomas Darden has been at the helm of the Board for the past 12 years.

The Board accepted the resignation of High School Principal Chris Kiser. Following graduation, Kiser will be joining former Cooper ISD Superintendent Jason Marshall at Palestine ISD.

“We are happy for him [Mr. Kiser], but we know we have a big role to fill for our high school leadership,” said Superintendent Denicia Hohenberger on his nine years at Cooper.

The District is also seeking an elementary teacher; a Science teacher/Head Softball coach; and a full time special education aide.

The Board accepted the hiring of Mrs. Leslie Wood as seventh grade English/Language Arts teacher, and Coach Brandon Bonds has been hired as a teacher in the special education department and as a coach.

The Board will continue to meet the third Monday of the month at the Central Administration Building on McKinney Street.

Superintendent Hohenberger reported the current enrollment is holding steady at 801. The Board was reminded of upcoming graduation activities.

The Board discussed upcoming workshop for the 2014-2015 Budget.

The next meeting will be on Monday, June 16.
