Cooper ISD Undergoes Modified Lockdown
COOPER - The district was placed under the modified lockdown Thursday and remained under the lockdown as late as 2:30 p.m.
Superintendent Denicia Hohenberger says that teachers were escorting students to and from classes and all the exterior doors were locked. She reported the Delta County Sheriff's Department did have one person contained and were investigating. She added the school is not taking any chances and are keeping safety first.
Unconfirmed reports were that the lockdown was initiated due to a person with a possible handgun. Sheriff Gerald Teague says the incident occurred Thursday morning at SW 6th street and someone heard it over the scanner and reported it to the school.
The Commerce hospital and Commerce ISD were placed on lockdown as well Thursday after a man was spotted with a gun outside the hospital just after 11 a.m. There was no word on if the two cases are related.
