Commerce – A Commerce business is hoping to retrieve its license after having it revoked following a New Year's Day shooting.
The City Council will hold a public hearing Tuesday regarding an appeal of a dance hall license at The Lodge. One person was stabbed and two shot following an altercation at the business. Four individuals would later be arrested.
Council was to address the issue two weeks ago but failed to meet a quorum.
Council will also tonight consider approval of a second reading to rezone property along South Monroe Street.
Becky Thompson has proposed a new development for building single family homes. The property is 21 acres consisting of 38 residential lots just east of Monroe Street and south of Brookshire's Grocery. Each lot is approximately 14,000 square feet.
Other items include consideration toward amending the city's water and sewer rates, effective April 1.
The proposed increases are based on a recent survey that follows a ten year plan. If approved, citizen's water charges would be based upon an inclining/conservation rate rather than a declining rate. The new plan would essentially charge more for the more water used, encouraging residents to conserve water.
Water in the first year is estimated to increase by 14%, followed by a 9% increase in year two and 26% increase in year three. Sewer rates for the first three years would follow an 11%, 15% and 0% pattern. The final seven years of both plans would see minimal increase in rates.
Tuesday's meeting begins at 6 p.m. at Commerce City Hall.
