Council approves permit for tatoo parlor

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – The City of Commerce will soon be getting a tattoo parlor and piercing studio.

The Planning and Zoning Commission Tuesday recommended approval for a conditional use permit at 1001 Main Street, which was approved by the City Council.

The building has reportedly been vacant for several years. The building was constructed for the purpose of being a tattoo parlor, and at one point, such a business was in operation but closed and has been vacant since.

The applicant, Tiffany Arrington, addressed the Council Tuesday, and spoke to possible safety concerns of the business, citing that tattoo parlors are regulated by the Texas State Health Department.

Three other individuals, including a small business owner in Commerce, expressed their support of the tattoo parlor and piercing studio.

Hours of operation for the business, established by the P&Z Commission, will be Tuesday through Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to midnight, and Friday and Saturday from 2:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.
