Council to honor successes of Police Lieutenant

By Scott Harvey

Sulphur Springs – Special recognition will be paid to longtime Sulphur Springs' narcotics officer Lt. Cleve Williams during Tuesday's city council meeting.

Also known as Buddy, Lt. Williams is transferring to the department's patrol division after spending more than 13 years in the department's narcotics interdiction unit.

According to Police Chief Jim Bayuk, Lt. Williams has recovered more than $1.5 million in currency during his tenure. Additionally, his efforts have helped in the discovery of over five tons of marijuana, 500 pounds of cocaine and 30 pounds of methamphetamine. More than 40 vehicles used in illegal activities have also been seized under Lt. Williams' watch.
