Council postpones meeting due to death

By Scott Harvey

Sulphur Springs – The man killed in a two vehicle crash over the weekend has been identified as the brother of Sulphur Springs City Council member Clay Walker.

52-yaer-old Kirk Adam Walker reportedly lost control of his vehicle while on a curve along FM 852 near Winnsboro. His vehicle then crossed the center line and collided head on with another car. Two others were injured.

Because of the accident, Tuesday's Sulphur Springs City Council special meeting to review its downtown revitalization project has been cancelled.

The council was to meet Tuesday to discuss and possibly approve the new downtown design, to include back-in parking on the square and two-way traffic around the square. The agenda also lists a public forum for city residents to present their views.

Recently, traffic engineers from AE-COM out of Orlando, Florida had visited the city to help develop the plans. The company also assisted in the Sulphur Springs Main Street project in 2008.

The agenda items have been placed on the council's regular session agenda for April 6.
