The Delta County Commissioners Court decided on the holidays for the upcoming 2014-2015 year. Those include Columbus Day Monday, Oct. 13, Veteran’s Day Tuesday, Nov. 11, Thanksgiving Nov. 26-28, Christmas Dec. 24-26, New Year’s Jan. 1-2, Martin Luther King Day Jan. 19, President’s Day Feb. 16, Good Friday April 3, Memorial Day May 25, Independence Day July 3, Labor Day Sept. 7 2015 and a floating holiday (employee’s choice).
Delta County Sheriff Ricky Smith reported on the repairs of the sound system in the District Courtroom. Charles Rutledge (technology at CISD) made the best bid. The funds for the updates will be distributed from technology funds of County/District Clerk Jane Jones and Justice of the Peace Chuck Reed. He also noted the new commissary vendor for the Jail as Keefe Supply Company of the Keefe Group. They were selected for the quality and price said the Sheriff.
He reviewed the recent undercover investigation (which is explained on the Front Page).
“We are getting this problem under control,” said Sheriff Smith, noting how drug dealers are afraid to come to Delta County fearing arrest. They have also established the new evidence room, in which he is pleased.
Delta County Attorney Jay Garrett presented his monthly report premised with note the Delta County Sheriff’s office has been keeping him busy: six assault causes bodily injury (FV) cases submitted, two burglary of vehicle, two possession of marijuana less than two ounces and one each of criminal mischief ($50-500), fail to identify fugitive give false info, interfere with emergency call, resist arrest search transport and stealing or receiving stolen check.
Cases filed with clerk included: four assault causes bodily injury (FV), four driving while license invalid, two burglary of vehicle, one each of false report to peace officer, interfere with emergency call and stealing or receiving stolen check. Cases disposed in County Court were four thefts ($50-500) and one each of DWI (1st), DWI (2nd), DWLI, false report to peace officer, JP Appeal-unsafe speed, possession of marijuana and theft by check. Fines assessed were $5,850. Court costs were $478 and restitution was $666.57. The office collected $569.32 for Delta Supermarket and $116.57 for Delta Family Mart for hot checks.
