Local law enforcement officers will be joining their counterparts from across North Texas in a task force designed to address crimes which stretch across the area.
Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks said Thursday that his office joined the newly formed Joint Intelligence and Operational Interagency Task Force, following a ceremony at the Homeland Security North Central Texas Fusion Center in McKinney.
Meeks said the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office will join forces with at least 16 other law enforcement agencies.
“I am very excited that our agency is part of this task force,” Meeks said. “The resources that will be available to us are unlimited as we use these resources to fight crime, not only in Hunt County but as well as in the North Texas area. As was stated today, criminals do not care about boundaries. They don’t check to see if they are in Hunt County or Collin County. By combining these resources, we will now have a major tool in our toolbox to provide safety to our citizens. Folks are tired of getting their property stolen, folks are tired of a sexual predator preying on their children, folks are tired of the rampant drug activity. Folks are tired of seeing their loved ones killed in senseless acts of violence. Frankly, I am tired of it also. That’s why I am so excited about this new task force as we deal with these criminals that I have just mentioned.”
The task force is comprised of sheriff’s offices in Hunt, Collin and Denton counties, police departments in all three counties as well as the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Memorandums Of Understanding were signed by representatives of all the agencies during Thursday’s ceremony.
